ACTION NEEDED to Halt HB2984 mandating flu vaccine to healthcare workers

The Senate Veto Session will convene on November 7th, 2017. All bill actions must be completed by November 9th, 2017. Things will be moving VERY quickly, and we only have a short time to make our voices heard before our legislators have an opportunity to hear this bill on the Senate floor.
Call Bill Sponsor Senator Bill Cunningham and ask that he remove his support of HB2984. If you know anyone that lives in Illinois District 18, please forward and ask them to call. The 18th Legislative District includes sections of Orland, Worth, and Palos Townships in the Southwest Cook County suburbs and the neighborhoods of Mount Greenwood, Beverly, Morgan Park and Auburn-Gresham in Chicago.

- The CURRENT statute (PA096-0823) already offers Flu vaccines to Healthcare employees and allows for religious exemptions, making an additional amendment for HB2984 completely redundant.
- The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) or the Center for Disease Control should not be given any authority to make rules for vaccine exemptions. All vaccine exemptions need to be made by the legislature accountable to the people.
- General philosophical exemptions are allowed in current law for the flu shot for healthcare workers. 21 to 36 million vaccines contain mercury with the multi-dose having 25 mcg. Robert Kennedy, Jr. of the World Mercury Project put this in perspective by stating that according to the EPA, this dose requires a body weight of 550 lbs. This could make anyone reluctant. In contrast, the IDPH has completely ignored the Mercury-Free Vaccine Act effective in 2006.
- The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission(EEOC) has won a suit against a hospital in Pennsylvania and is suing a hospital in North Carolina over firing employees for taking a personal religious exemption to the flu vaccine. Federal law requires personal religious accommodation for employees.
